Candidates 2016

Executive Vice-President

Phil Rucci(incumbent)

Phil Rucci Executive Vice President SWBocesBTA
The job of Vice-President takes on many roles. My experience with BOCES makes me appropriate choice to help move forward. In my 18 year career with BOCES I have worked in 8 different programs, giving me insight into the difficulties faced by workers. My involvement in numerous committees, APPR, negotiating team, and SWBOCES “think tank”, allows me to stay informed on integral issues that affect all members. My experience in BOCES programs and committee work will help in serving our membership. A strong, active union is needed to ensure future prosperity and I believe that I am up to the task.

Lesa Curtis

I became actively involved in the union because I believe, strongly, in the importance of unions to improve and maintain good, safe working conditions, secure fair and equitable contracts and benefits,
and assist members whenever possible. Unfortunately, I had to step back last spring due to the illness of my father who passed in the fall.  While I have become involved again in political action and negotiations, as well as assisting members when possible, there remains much work to be done.  I encourage each of you to get involved and to vote.

1st Vice-President of Aides

Emily Nachshen(incumbent)

I am happy to accept the nomination of President of the Aides.  I have been a representative for 8 years and President of the Aides for 2 years. One of my strengths is having good communication skills. Conveying issues accurately and bringing them to fruition. I have served on several fun activities that have brought our group together. I served on Grievance meetings with success. I did research which helped bring Rif'd aids back to work.  I am available to all BOCES staff and respond quickly with answers.
I would like to continue in this capacity as I feel accomplished, and rewarded.
     Sincerely   Emily Nachshen   (Ms.EM)

2nd Vice-President of ALC

Kevin McAllister(incumbent)

Teacher Aide Representatives
(choose 2)

Bruce Hack(Incumbent)

Sophie Graham-Bowen(Incumbent)

Bruce Hack
I am Bruce Hack and started at BOCES in 1999 as a teachers aide . For about 10 years at the Friendship center in MV . Then move around for 4 years and now for the last 3 years at the Rye Lake Campus . I hope to bring about more safety for all .

 Representative Assembly Delegate
(choose 3)

Tom Burgess

As representative, I will work to make the union a meaningful part of everyone’s workday. The union should be a proactive force. We should have equal standing with the administration. This is not a criticism of our current union leadership: it’s a criticism of us! The union is us, but we rely on the union officials to do our work for us. We need to get the union membership involved in making BOCES a great place for teachers, students, parents, etc. I will work to communicate with our members, keep them informed, listen to them, and challenge them.

Michael Star

I have been an Occupational Therapist (O.T.) for the past 17 years at BOCES, working in a variety of programs. I have given several in-services on Conference days to promote OT awareness in the classroom. I have also been involved with the union over the past few years in different capacities, serving on both the audit and negotiating committees and as a teacher representative as well. I have also served as the NYSUT delegate (alternate) in the past, and would like to hold this position again. I believe I could represent our union effectively in this capacity.
