PRE-RETIREMENT WORKSHOP
Offered by NYSUT Retiree Council 15-16 Westchester-Putnam April 14, 2023 4:00-6:45 Teamsters Hall (enter through the back of the building) 160 S Central Ave, Elmsford, NY In person-No remote option Are you retiring in 2023? If so, you definitely have questions. This workshop is designed ONLY for NYSUT members in Westchester and Putnam counties who will definitely retire in 2023. Snacks and Supper will be provided. You will hear from Ron Gross (NYSUT’s 2nd Vice President), David Keefe (President of the NYS Teachers’ Retirement System), Steve Kramer, Esq. (NYSUT endorsed Elder Law Attorney), Emiljana Ulaj (NYSUT Political Organizer), and you will also learn about NYSUT retiree benefits and opportunities for activities in retirement. You will receive numerous resources that will help you to plan both before and after retirement. Do you have a new leadership team that has a vision for your local and community? Are your members frustrated that contractual gains are not keeping up with inflation? Is your local getting ready for contentious negotiations? Do you want to tackle new issues like social justice or poverty in your community? If any of these apply, then the Local Action Project might be right for your local! The NYSUT Local Action Project (LAP) is an outreach and training program for local unions that teaches proven strategies to increase member participation, build community support and help locals get results in contracts, budget votes and other grassroots issues. Next year’s LAP will be held July 17–21, 2023, at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York.
