Grievance Chair Candidates
Paulette Theret; for (Grievance Chair)
Throughout my 30 years as an employee at SW BOCES I have been both a Mathematics and Physical Education teacher in both the Center for Career Services and Special Services. As time moved on I became more actively involved in our Union. Starting on the original APPR committee I transitioned and became an integral part of the PDP committee and have since worked with the Math Team to lay down the foundation to formulate a Math Department. For approximately the past 8 years I have been a union representative first for Career Services and presently for Special Services. I have also been involved in the mentoring process and a mentor. In the past year I was appointed to the position of Membership Chair and have been diligently working on updating our files. I frequently attend workshops and conferences to stay current on our rights as union members and as educators. As the Grievance Chair person I will formulate a committee of at least 3 people representing and consisting of members from Special Services, Career Services, IYP and ALC. I will meet with them routinely to review issues, policies and procedures. Together we will assist the members through the process as outlined in their respective contracts for an equitable application of our agreements. I will do my best to protect our rights. I have the enthusiasm and energy to prevail. Thank you for your support. |
I became the grievance chair by appointment to complete Marty Sommer's term as he assumed the responsibilities as President of our unit.
I believe the successful resolutions of the grievances filed during my term speak for themselves. Of course, I could not have accomplished this without the help and guidance of both Marty and the rest of the board. Being the grievance chair is an ongoing learning process. No two issues are truly the same and applying the stated fact or intent of the contract is a challenge. I would like to continue both this learning experience and challenge on your behalf. No matter the outcome of the election, I urge all of you to read and know your contract. It is there to protect and guarantee your rights within its framework. Thank you for your support and confidence over the last two years. Mary McGuinness Grievance Chairperson |
