When Additional Support Is Needed: Ensuring Student Behavioral Health & Wellness
Hosted by Brandon A. Cruz and Stephanie Marquesano, the harris project, with key partners from The Guidance Center of Westchester and Westchester Jewish Community Services

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the behavioral health and wellness of our students. Everyone is doing their best to maintain connection and offer guidance during these extraordinary times.

The following questions will be answered during this session:
  • What mental health and trauma-informed resources are available when support is needed beyond what the school can offer?
  • Are there supports for students who may be misusing and/or addicted to alcohol, marijuana and other substances?
  • How does telehealth work for students from elementary through high school?
  • How can we help our students and families navigate these resources?
  • What re-entry challenges are anticipated when students return to their school campuses?

Representatives from two Westchester agencies will share information about the trends they are seeing, details about their youth-serving programs (including LGBTQIA+) and the many ways they continue to support the behavioral health and wellness needs of Westchester students. They also want to hear from you, so there will be time for Q & A.

Audience: Co-Ser 644 members, BOCES Directors, Assistant Supts, Principals, APs, Pupil Personnel, Mental Health Professionals, Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Health Teachers

Happy Teacher Week

At a time when heroes are emerging from every walk of life, it's important to remember the heroes who are there for us every single day.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, a time to celebrate the amazing teachers who educate our children, nurture our communities, and make all our lives better!

Over the past several weeks, it has become clearer than ever before how valuable and special teachers are to our lives, to our families, and to our communities.

Teachers have heroically adapted to a whole new way of teaching in the face of uncertainty. Teachers have given students a sense of normalcy and routine to help them navigate these extraordinarily difficult times. And teachers have even put their lives and health at risk by going the extra mile to deliver their students the learning materials they need, to help keep them fed, and to volunteer when their communities have needed them.

Every year, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week to acknowledge the commitment and contributions of our dedicated and caring teachers. But this year it means even more.

Take action now to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week by sharing our poster on social media!

On behalf of NYSUT, I want to say THANK YOU to all the teachers across the state for your passion, your dedication, and for making New York better every single day!

We appreciate you.

In solidarity,

Andrew Pallotta
NYSUT President

P.S.  Share our poster today, and ask everyone you know to do the same!
