Wear Blue and Share Blue!
Sisters and Brothers:
On Monday, Dec. 9, New Yorkers will see a sea of blue -- from Jamestown to Montauk; from Plattsburgh to Binghamton. Dec. 9 is a National Day of Action in support of public educationand we want parents, students and communities to take notice. Monday will provide an opportunity for you -- as well as parents and other friends and supporters -- to wear something blue as a sign of solidarity and pride in our professions, and in support of quality public education for all.
As we make a collective statement donning the color blue, we are also encouraging you to make your individual voice heard about what's happening in your school and on your campus. Sign onto an open letter to the state Board of Regents and Commissioner King to urge their support for adequate funding for our public school and colleges; a three-year moratorium on high-stakes consequences for state standardized tests; and a return to a focus on teaching and learning, not testing.
Take action now. Go to nysut.org/dayofactionletter to add your name to the letter.
Together, with one voice united, we can reclaim the promise of public education.
P.S.: Remember -- Wear blue and share blue! And don't forget to send us your pictures from your school or campus on Monday. Send them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
